100 Minds-Thought Leadership Award

Our very own Jean-Marie was honored as finalist for the 2012 100 Minds-Thought Leadership with in the Greater Cincinnati Region. There are many great people in Cincinnati and we are fortunate for their time and energy to make a difference in our community. Those who were nominated were deemed worthy of recognition for community building, innovative ideas overall, or thought leadership within their industry.

When asked why she thought she may have been selected for the award, Jean-Marie stated, “It was such an honor to be included as one of the 2012 Thought Leaders of Greater Cincinnati ….I was nominated anonymously and with no statement from the jurors as to their selection process.  I can tell you that the questions the candidates were asked included our vision of the future as well as our involvement in building a better community and our involvement with non-profits.  I am involved in sustainable design, (i.e. “green design”), at emersion DESIGN, and on the USGBC sustainable committee for corporate real estate.  I also design offices for corporate clients, including non-profits such as the design of the American Red Cross’s new regional headquarters and disaster operations center.”

She added, “On the personal side, I support a variety of non-profits, such as organizing the United Way fundraiser and a school supply drive for Crayons to Computers at work, making care packages for soldiers, working at my church’s festival and boy scout  fundraisers, and supporting children in Guatemala for over 25 years through ChildFund, (formerly Christian Children’s Fund).  I also have three generations of women in my family who have battled breast cancer, including my sister who is currently undergoing treatment.  In 2004, I organized my other sisters to take part in The Sister Study, which is a ground breaking 10-year research study gathering detailed information from the immediate family members of breast cancer patients.  I hope that in this way and through involvement with other non-profits, I can make a difference every day through my choices and actions.  What I am passionate about is ‘leaving something better than I found it,’ either through my job as a designer, or in helping others through non-profit organizations or one-on-one.  My hope for the future is that more people will see that even very small efforts make a huge impact when they are multiplied together.”

We here at emersion DESIGN would like to congratulate Jean-Marie, along with all of her fellow nominees, for all that you do in and out of the workplace. You are inspiration to us all!

Additionally, we would like to thank LOTH for organizing this charitable event! The person chosen as the most influential mind within the region won $1,000 Honorarium made in their name to FallFeast 2012.  This event provides food, coats, haircuts, vision screening, and flu shots for the less fortunate on Thanksgiving Day.
