Wind Tunnel 9 is utilized by the US Air Force and major aerospace contractors to test and validate the design of space and aerospace vehicle components. The facility performs research testing on concept designs for aerospace engineering using a wind tunnel that can simulate up to Mach 16. Ultra-high speed data and image collection systems document the results.
Modifications were required to enhance the functionality and communications between Control Room technicians, provide better use of available space and improve the facility’s image to reflect the world-class testing that they perform. The Control Room is used to allow distinguished visitors to witness the test and procedures. The design includes concept development for the Control Room and adjacent spaces for improved operations, noise reduction, and secure space for visitors and observers that does not interfere with operations of the tests. The tests and test subjects are generally classified either for national or corporate security, so the design incorporates methods to prevent unauthorized viewing.
